Local Doctors/Dentist

Hi there folks,

John and I are selling up and moving to Bocas later this year we hope. (we are trying to sell our house in the UK.

Wondering if anyone can helpus find various things we weren't able to locate when we were there in January/06, for example, doctors? dentists?

Would appreciate any info we can get

Thanks Susan

Re: Local Doctors/Dentist

To the best of my knowledge, there really aren't any doctors in Bocas, other than the ones who work at the public Seguro hospital. There used to be a general practitioner who handled well baby care, prenatal care and routine stuff but he seems to have moved on. Most of the expats and middle class Panamanians I know who live here seek medical care in David or Panama City.

There is a dentist here, right on Main Street, but my dentist is in Panama City so I don't know if the local guy is any good or not. Hopefully, someone who has gone to him for care will post here.

You should know and understand that for anything other than a fairly minor injury or illness, there is no healthcare in Bocas; though the local hospitals and a local bush doctor are quite capable of treating people for snakebites and scorpion stings.

Maybe that will change in the future when enough people with money are living here to support a small private clinic, complete with diagnostic machines, a laboratory, and a couple of bilingual doctors and nurses. Maybe the people who want this service will eventually band together to raise money to bring it here, like the people in some small towns in the USA have done.

Dr T Cruz in Changuinola is wonderful and I have HORRIBLE dental terror. She's never hurt me and never disses my white-knuckled terror...have name of excellent cosmetic dentist in PC. email for name if needed

If anyone EVER needs orthopedic care/sports medicine care, I highly recommend Roque Pinilla at Paitilla Center in PC.He's no MDeity and even sends an occasional email to check up. He's a fine human being and an excellent MD.

I've been told there is a Dr T(h)era Roper in Changuinola Hospital who is good. I'm going to visit her and I'll send feedback.

Any nurse midwives around?
